MJF Secure Place in CIPD 2013 Finals!

Over at the MJF Facilities Management head office, we are currently sitting at work with wider than usual grins on our faces, not to mention that rather self-satisfying feeling that you can get when days, weeks, months - almost years! - of our hard work finally start to pay off.

So - what are we so happy about? We are delighted to have been recognised for our HR initiative in bigger ways than we could have ever imagined! We heard just two weeks ago that we have been successful in becoming a finalist for the CIPD 2013 Awards as a contender in their newest category: SME HR Initiative of the Year.

We called our project 'Focus', notably 'Focus – On our People', and we have been wiping away old customs and ways of looking after our staff and giving the final polishing on exciting new plans which intend not to just retain staff, but motivate them and get them talking in the local North East community about MJF being a great place to work. Focus has been in the planning for a good 18 months and slowly-slowly things are changing with the way we do things at MJF with the core of our business; our 'people'.

Over the last year, every piece of meticulous planning and every change and development within the organisation has been for the end game of 'our people'. This was not for short term wins that might have been created but very much for long term gains.

We have been looking at ways of giving back to staff, using opportunities to evidence 'recognition' to say 'thank you' and to reward staff through a variety of initiatives. And, do you know what the best bit is? This is just the beginning! 'Focus' is without doubt still very much in its infancy, there is still so much more MJF want to do for our staff.

Patience is our weakness - we want to do it all and have it now (and that was 18 months ago once the plan was set!). Now, slowly, like the petals on a daisy in the early stage of spring, the first curls are starting to unfold and, like that flower, we are focussed on growing naturally and setting the ground right in the first place so we have solid foundations on which to grow.

We are therefore extremely excited that 'Focus' is been recognised in such a well-known and prestigious body as CIPD and we will be making our trip to CIPD head office in the next two weeks for judging day – wish us luck!
